Hosting

If you’d like to stay with a local dancer (hosting) or share accommodations (Airbnb-style), please indicate this on the registration form. We’ll then send you a link to a hosting sheet where hosts and guests can find each other. We’ll do our best to arrange a place for you to stay, but unfortunately we can’t guarantee it.

HOTELS

For Jitterbugs Delight and Balboa Delight, we recommend staying near the kHaus or Volkshaus .

For Shag Delight, we recommend staying at a hotel in the city center or near the SBB train station.

⚠️ Note: A major event is taking place in Basel at the same time as the Shag Delight weekend. Book your festival tickets and accommodations early, or consider hosting (select this option during registration).

Hotel Krafft: Located right on the Rhine. Boasts a beautiful view of the Rhine. Excellent breakfast. Perfect for JBD and Balboa Delight.
East-West Hotel: Located right on the Rhine and next to Hotel Krafft. Perfect for JBD and Balboa Delight.
Motel One: Very centrally located, right on Barfüsserplatz, close to Jitterbugs Studio.
The Passage: Central location, close to Jitterbugs Studio.
Hotel Euler: Located near the SBB train station.
Hotel Metropol: Near the SBB train station.
Design Youth Hostel: Award-winning hostel with quiet and beautiful rooms in historic walls.
Basel Backpack: Hostel near Corrientes (Party Shag Delight).
Extra tip: Hotels in Weil am Rhein, Germany, are easily accessible by taking tram 8 from Claraplatz.

You can find more accommodations on booking.com, Airbnb, Hostelworld, and other sites. There are several Airbnb listings with multiple rooms that would be suitable for a group. If you’d like to share an Airbnb with someone, please contact us.

public transportation

Public transportation is free during your stay at the hotel in Basel. Some trams and buses also run every half hour at night. The Kaserne tram stop is located right near the venue. In Basel, it usually takes no more than 10–15 minutes to get from one place to another using public transportation or bike-sharing (first 30 minutes free).

FOOD

There are many delicious restaurants in Basel. Here is a small selection of our favorite restaurants with great food and very friendly service. Most of them are even represented two or three times in Basel and are close to the venues. There are also numerous buvettes (small cafés with sandwiches) near the Rhine.

Klara: Nine kitchens and a bar. Guaranteed something for every taste.
Tibits: Buffet with changing vegan and vegetarian dishes.
Za Zaa: Lebanese mezze with hot and cold dishes to share or enjoy alone. Vegan or vegetarian.
Vegitat: Delicious and healthy vegan kebabs and cigköfte.
Bakery Kult: Very popular local bakery with sandwiches and delicious pastries for breaks. Close to the Rhine.
Boo: Thai cuisine. Our favorites: Pad Thai Tofu or Spicy Peanut Curry.
Market hall: around 30 different food vendors. Uncomplicated and delicious.
Cafe Frühling: Specialty coffees, delicious breakfast, and brunch. Now also located right inside the SBB train station and at Cafe Sommer in Gundeli.
